I LOVE THE FAIR
August 2, 2016
If you ever get a chance to visit Haines, come the weekend of the Southeast Alaska State Fair. The weather is usually good and people from all over the Southeast communities come to eat, dance, and play.
The fair director, Jess Edwards and crew, work all year to set up a four day event that most families plan their summer around. They do a magnificent job of organizing and arranging bands, acts, artist, etc. to show their talents off to people of Southeast Alaska. But the real backbone of the fair is all the hard work from the volunteers in our community. If you're not volunteering at a food booth, taking tickets, operating the rides, or organizing some event in the fair, then you probably don't live in Haines. And if you didn't get a chance to be a volunteer, then I will put you on the volunteer list for the preschool taco booth next year (wink, wink). The entire community pools together to making this even possible in our our little Southeast Alaskan town. So thank you to all the volunteers who made this wonderful event in our community possible. . Especially to the train conductor who remembered Charlie from the last year as his "best costumer". The picture of Charlie above I think was about the 20th time he had ridden the train, and was followed by many more.
I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!
